« Warning! »
I originally purchased this product which came in a set of other Peter Thomas Roth acne clearing products. I had mild acne and was recommend this product by a sephora rep. This product was extremely harsh and striped my skin leaving it burning and dry. I used 80% of the product to ensure it wasn’t just the product “doing its magic“, when I was finished my mild acne was now intense. I went back to sephora and told a rep what I had been using and she was surprised that anyone had recommend this product to me because it is not meant for mild or hormonal acne! Don’t purchase this product if you have mild acne, there are way better purchases that can be made for half the price.
« If you have adult acne, you HAVE TO try this. »
I can’t even begin to tell you how grateful I am for this product. I’m 34 and my skin was becoming horrendous. It was so bad that I found myself in tears every morning for about a month. I did not want to leave the house. My derm prescribed two months of doxycycline to help it clear, but I didn’t really see a difference until I started using this. After three days, my skin started glowing. My acne started shrinking and the scars started fading. My pores look smaller and I swear my wrinkles are diminishing. I don’t know what I’d do if they stopped making this. The first few nights, it stung a little when I put it on and I had a little dryness in the morning, but that stopped right away. Honestly, If you have adult acne you MUST try this. I’m almost in tears typing this because I’m so happy that I finally found something that works.
« Best skin care purchase I've ever made. »
I started using this product in February, based on reviews that I’d read on this website, and I LOVE it. I have sensitive, oily, acne prone skin, and I haven’t had any negative reactions to it. I’ve been using it in conjunction with a very basic cleanser and a simple spf 15 moisturizer made for sensitive skin. I use this all over my face, twice a day, and I use DDF’s sulfur mask as an over night spot treatment for anything that does come up.PROS:-Lasts a long time (mine lasted me 5 months, using it day and night)-Helps blemishes heal more quickly-Helps post acne marks fade more quickly (I’m quite prone to these, and very fair, so they show up almost as dark as the blemishes did in the first place. Now they go away SO much faster).-Keeps skin very smooth/refines skin’s texture (the morning after I first used this, I couldn’t believe how much smoother my face was).-Keeps acne blemishes from forming (I still break out occasionally, but much less than before I started using this product).-Blemishes that do form are smaller.- No itching, burning, or peeling-Reduces oil somewhat.- Gets rid of those small, flesh colored bumps (the kind you can’t pick).CONS:- I definitely experienced a purging period. (My skin looked worse a week after starting this product, but another week after that it started, and continues, to look better).- No overnight improvement in acne (just smooth skin).- Pricey.- Hasn’t completely obliterated my black heads. All of my cons are definitely outweighed by the pro’s. This product actually works. You don’t have to buy a complete regimen for it to work, either (in fact, I started to see better results after switching to a basic non-medicated, oil-free cleanser and moisturizer). I feel so much better about my skin than I did a few months ago; I don’t wake up every morning worried about what I’m going to see in the mirror. I’ll continue using this product for years and years. Best skin care purchase I’ve ever made.
« Effective for texture / Must use effectively »
This is a really good product. It is worth the price because it has BOTH glycolic acid and salicylic acid, that too in very significant percentages. I used it for 3months so far. I was really consistent for about 3 weeks, took a 1month break because i got busy, then started again for more than 6weeks now. It has helped get rid of texture on my face, small bumps, and prevents small acne from developing around chin, temples, and forehead. Make sure to use it at least 1 hour before bed because it is most effective when it situs on your skin versus getting rubbed off when you sleep. Pro-tip: if you have 3 hours in the morning before work/school, I’d also apply it first thing in the morning and then rinse off. Give it at least 2 hours, preferably 3 before rinsing.
« THE BEST »
If you have breakouts, but want to also fight lines and wrinkles.........this is the product for you. I have used everything, including products from dermatologists that were so pricey, I could have spent a week on a Greek Island.....and this stuff is bt FAR the best, especially if you use it together with his acne wash. My skin is clear and smooth and old scars have faded......I really hope any ladies out there with wrinkles and breakouts ( who woulda thought you could have both?) try this!
« Great, but takes some time »
My skin went thorough some really big changes in a short period of time, changing from pretty normal with the occasional breakout to super oily in my t-zone with really bad breakouts that I have *never* experienced before. I tried lotions with acne fighting ingredients, spot gels, pore strips, and nothing was helping. So in desperation, I picked one of the highest rated products on Sephora.I read a few reviews that said this made them breakout worse before it started improving, and I definitely experienced this. But I decided to give it a full two weeks before I decided if this was worth using or not. And I have to say, I think it is.The really stubborn breakouts have almost completely calmed down, and the scarring is fading quickly. I still have a few areas that aren’t quite gone, but it seems to be getting there, and my skin seems much brighter. This stuff stings a bit, but it hasn’t dried out my skin and it absorbs really really well. I wish it was less expensive, but I think there’s several months worth in a bottle, and I’ve been using it twice a day (Once in the morning, 20 minutes before applying makeup, once at night, 20 minutes before applying any other products).Overall, I’d say this is worth getting, but not if it’s right before a big event that you want your skin to be improved for... make sure it’s a couple weeks before in case your skin reacts like mine!
« cystic acne top pick »
i have deep hormonal cystic acne and I can honestly say that while I’m treating my skin for its issues, this is my go to every time I wash my face morning and evening for even toned and vibrant looking skin. Almost every product I’ve ever used has always irritated my skin...moisturizer included...this is one of my arsenal top picks because of how many good things it does for my skin!
« have really stubborn acne? this won’t work for you »
I had high expectations for this product, it did nothing for my acne. If You have anywhere near cystic acne this product is really a gamble. I bought this at the recommendation of a Sephora employee who said it really helped them with cystic acne, but good products to be honest you would notice a difference within a week. Instead of buying this full size, try out the smaller size in the acne line starter pack it’s around $30.
« Has Denatured Alcohol. »
In the top ingredients is Denatured Alcohol. I had wondered why it dried my skin out and stung after I washed my face and used toner. I couldn’t read the ingredients on the bottle (too small), so I came here and found out about the denatured alcohol. I know it’s bad for my skin and with the stinging and drying of skin, I can see why. I also broke out more after I used this a few times. Beware.
« Adult acne life saver »
So I have two photos with this comment. The first is a month ago and the second is now. I am 24 years old. I always had mild acne as a teenager and it went away in college. When I returned home, it slowly started coming back but it was manageable....until the last 6 months. I started having cystic and rash-like acne on my forehead out of nowhere! It was embarrassing and I lost all confidence in myself. I had many visits to the dermatologist and they prescribed medication I ended up being allergic to. I have used PTR masks for a few years and I trust his products so I finally broke down and decided that at 24, I would try his acne products. The results are magic! Like most say on here, it is a little drying at times but I started pairing it with his water drench face moisturizer and my face is flawless! At night, I wash my face with his acne wash, put the serum on and then put the moisturizer on as the 3rd step. I also use only the moisturizer in the mornings before makeup. However many times you use the serum during the day is dependent on how bad the acne. I used it 3 times a day and then backed off to once a day when it cleared up. Another great product!
« A No-Go »
I get little closed comedones/little skin colored bumps on my cheeks and heard this was the holy grail for a lot of people. However, it didn’t do much for me at all. I also didn’t like the texture because I wanted to put my other serums on as well but didn’t feel like they absorbed well enough after or before this. Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA liquid exfoliator worked SO much better for me.
I’ve been a long time user of acne medications containing benzoyl peroxide because that’s what “worked“ for me. I have terrible acne that even Accutane could not treat. It was painful, cystic and ugly. Benzoyl peroxide helped me put the pimples somewhat under control and brought the level down to moderate level. However, I still hated the way I looked and my self-confidence lowered every day. Then I decided to try this product because I’ve never used salicylic acid with AHA/BHA combined. Within a week, I saw a miracle. My face is seriously SO much better now. Yes, I still do get very small bumps here and there but I do not get painful bumps anymore. I’ve spent sooo much money on acne products before and I feel like this is the best product ever. It makes my face tingly and red but it goes away within 1-2 minutes. I put this on only once at night (tried during day time and it made my face too shiny). It could be that salicylic acid+AHA combo is just really right for my skin. For those whose face just does not react much to salicylic acid might not benefit from this product.
« Glowing, clear skin...at last! »
Perfect solution to my adult acne! Cleared up existing zits almost immediately and it seems to be holding new breakouts at bay! Yaaaay! I’m using this along with Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster. Perfect pair for aging acne prone skin!
« Bye bye ugly blemishes.... »
Had huge ugly blemishes/ pimples all over my jaw and cheeks, normally I have minimal acne but stress from college finals killed my clear complexion.Used this for all over face treatment, this is only my fifth day and I notice that not only did the swelling of the acne go down, the old brown acne spots left behind by old acne turned pink and is diminishing; extremely pleased with that part especially.Because this product is a standard intensive gel, I recommend using it with a natural regime as not to irritate the face with too much stuff.I use Fresh Soy Cleanser (amazing), and REN’s fruit mask (use this before applying the gel and you will get amazing results!). Both are natural and I noticed go very well with this product. My face feels soft, and looks re-energized.Even after my acne clears up, I will continue to use this product to exfoliate my skin and keep the pretty glow its given me, and keep blemishes at bay.PROS:-Easily absorbed into skin, fast drying-No residue, shine, or stickiness-Deep reaching, intensive-Brings down swelling of current acne fast-Leaves fast glowing and reduces old acne marks-Big bottleCONS:-Pump sometimes gives you more than you need-Can sting (given it is acid-based)-Makes you want to kill yourself for not finding this great product sooner
i’ve been breaking out pretty bad the past couple months (normal pimples as well as some cystic acne) and haven’t been able to prevent more pimples from forming, but i feel like this product has really helped even in the 5 days i’ve been using it!!! ive only had just a couple small pimples pop up but i’ve read that it’s normal for your skin to go thru a small purging period after starting to use it. and i would say it’s helped my pores reduce in size as well! i love the consistency, it soaks in your skin very nicely. obviously kinda pricey but a little goes a long way!! i have noticed tho that when i use it, as i rub it in my skin kinda flakes/peels off (picture attached)??? it’s not like painful or anything like that, i feel like that’s prolly normal seeing as how it has acids in it so i don’t think that’s a bad thing. it just is kinda gross initially hahaha but i’m just assuming that means it’s working if anything bc i think it’s just dead skin that it’s rubbing off !!! i hope it keeps working well and that i’ll see even more improvement!
