« life saver for cystic acne »
okay. so the day I went into sephora and found this gem, I was pretty heartbroken.I’m 25 and have been dealing with moderate to severe cystic acne since I was 14. I’ve been to loads of dermotologists and for the last couple years my skin has been tolerable for the most part thanks in most part to birth control to level out hormones. Anyways, I’ve still been getting random huge cystic break outs. it seems by the time one patch is healing up I have another one coming up. so frustrating. That morning I’d went to a new dermotologist where he prescribed 6 medications that came to around $500. the meds he wanted to put me back on, retin-A, etc. dry out my skin SEVERELY and at my age I’m worried with dried out skin I’m going to have a problem with premature aging far too early. When I went in I was looking for a cleanser with benzoyl peroxide since that’s what he recommended, but I was planning on not filling the RX’s except for maybe the antibiotic to see if it’d help. I asked a sephora lady if they had any cleansers with that ingredient and she looked through everything and told me clean and clear had one at target but everything they had in stock was salysilic acid. she explained all the ingredients, benefits, cons to me so clearly and recommended I try this sulfur masque as a spot treatment at night to dry out cysts and give my skin a fighting chance since my skin probably wasn’t immune to sulfur since it’s such a different ingredient than one usually finds. THIS DID MIRACLES. my skin is the clearest it’s been in ages, my skin feels healthy, I’ve continued using my lancome serum, day cream and night cream for moisture and to help with scarring. I feel hopeful my skin will actually be clear and feel healthy. which my dermo didn’t seem to believe was possible. this is rather a long review, but if you have skin like mine, now you know if it may be a good fit. cheers and good health!
« Contains Talc »
I always read the ingredients of products (if they’re made available) before I make a purchase, and one of the things I try to avoid using is talc. So, I was surprised to discover that the PTR sulfur mask contains talc, which was not listed among the ingredients on Sephora’s website, however it IS clearly listed on the packaging. I bought this from the website so I didn’t know until it was delivered. Had I known this contained talc I never would have purchased it to begin with. I don’t know why Sephora omitted talc from the ingredients list but if I buy from this website again I will make sure to double check the full ingredients of a product on other websites before purchasing.
« A miricle-worker for my acne »
I have oily acne-prone sensitive skin that typically features at least two deep painful/irritating cysts, many festering evil jaw bumps, whiteheads constantly and lots of adjacent redness. When I used this mask for 20 min-1 hour on my face’s active cysts, areas of underskin bumps and some whiteheads, which are very red and raised, I have had experiences with the following:1. Cheek cysts become whiteheads without any prodding!2. The bumps and whiteheads along my jaw are waaay less raised and red! I am ecstatic! YAY! (My sister actually asked the day after one mask if I was wearing foundation/concealer!)4. Dried whiteheads to similar effect of benzyl peroxide 5% gel.5. I think it also did some pore-shrinking as well, but I haven’t looked too closely so that might just be temporary.Cautions1. Follow the directions and always test-patch first and wait to make sure there are no adverse reactions. My oily skin was a bit drier for about a day after, so I’d recommend due caution, especially for people with dry skin.2. Use a gentle cleanser that doesn’t irritate your skin on your face before and after a mask. Use a gentle moisturizer after. I used ice and then Korres Yogurt Cooling Gel after my mask because my face was a bit irritated from not being gentle enough when removing the mask, but this is just what works for me.3. Make sure not to use something else that can irritate/make skin more sensitive/be drying, such as various acne and anti-aging products (especially BP and retinoids), on the same area before the mask or immediately after.
« One of the best all time products »
Yes, it’s kinda stinky.Yes, sometimes you end up smelling it even hours after you wash it off.But it’s hands-down the only product I’ve ever used that I feel really, completely lived up to it’s promises. I’ve been using this since I was 20 years old. I’m 39 now and instead of using it for acne, it’s evolved with my skin to work as a fantastic exfoliator. I get compliments on my skin all the time and I’m convinced it’s this product. I always get it as gifts for friends and it’s been a “life changer“ for several people I know. But with any cult product, there are certain tricks of the trade....mine is that you CANNOT (despite what the product directs you to do) let this mask dry on your face. You will end up with dried out skin, even if you skin is very oily to begin with. Drier skin can absolutely use and benefit from this product, but the best way I’ve found to use this is to put it on thickly about 5 minutes before I shower and wear it until the very end of my shower. That way, it doesn’t dry and the steam of the shower adds a little extra oomph to the mask.Do not hesitate to try this. It’s a secret weapon and it’s an amazing product.
« Seriously Awesome »
Let me put this out there right away: I am a Sephora employee. In fact, I’m one of their skincare experts and also a licensed esthetician so you could say that I’m pretty much OBSESSED with skin and skincare... I’m also a product junkie that will try anything. That being said, this mask is HANDS DOWN my favorite mask ever to combat breakouts. The clay base draws out impurities and regulates oil production and the sulfur cools and soothes as it’s an anti irritant. I still get blemishes and I’m in my early 30’s and I will use this mask 2 times per week and also spot treat with it overnight. Yep, just dab it on those bad boys and go to sleep. The redness and swelling will be greatly reduced without the potential of irritating the surrounding skin like benzol peroxide and salacylic acid can. It’s especially great for those painful cystic blemishes that never come to the surface but feel like they have their own heartbeat! Love PTR in general, but this product is something I cannot live without. Oh, and it will last you FOREVER too!
« Perhaps the best face mask...ever? »
I’m a self-proclaimed face mask junkie. I’m always looking for something to clear my spots, purge my pores, and smooth my skin. I’m happy to say that this may meet all of my (demanding) qualifications.I asked for a small sample of this mask and that little container lasted me about 2 weeks. 2 weeks!!!! Can you imagine how long a full-size tub will last me (I am so excited!)?First off, like with many of PTR’s products, this has a strong scent. It reminds me of Vicks VapoRub. Kinda strong, kinda sinus-clearing, and yet comforting at the same time. You don’t need a whole lot, just a thin layer over your entire face or a little thicker layer if you have a blemish. I leave it on for about 10 minutes or so and when I wash it off my skin is smooth, fresh, and nice and tingly! This does wonders for pimples. Put this on overnight if you feel a pimple coming on.Highly suggested for those with oily/acne prone skin!
« Excellent for long-term and short-term acne care »
I had no acne problems until I started college. Stress, poor diet, and lack of sleep really did a number on my skin and for the first time in my life— I began experiencing very painful breakouts. I have used this product consistently for 4 years now and it has helped clear up my skin so much. I still periodically breakout (especially after I travel) and this mask has never let me down. For more intense breakouts, I leave the mask on overnight after I have done the rest of my skincare routine and have never had any issues (although I recognize this might not be the right move for people with dryer skin). It dries out whiteheads, pushes blackheads to the surface, and reduces redness. It’s great for full-face application, but also works just as well if you’re only trying to cover a few spots. Love, love, love this product and will continue to use it! First photo is from Feb 2020 (height of my breakouts) and the second photo is from June 2022.
« If you use it right, it's amazing! »
I first started using this mask about a year ago, and I just followed the directions on the jar to let it dry and then rinse off. The results of this were just okay. The real magic happened when I decided to put it on and then take a hot bath. I washed my face really well and then left this mask on for about 30 minutes while I was in the bath. This made an incredible difference! The heat and the steam just seemed to suck all the gunk and discoloration out of my skin. Trust me, try it that way.
« Initial breakout is NORMAL »
Sulfur is much more effective at killing acne-causing bacteria than glycolic acid/salicylic acid, which work more by exfoliating the top layer of skin to dry out existing acne and open clogged pores to prevent future breakouts. Note: With different acids you also get added benefits (like how lactic acid helps with dark spots/fine lines). Sulfur does mildly exfoliate your skin AND kills bacteria. The clay base will literally draw out oil, debris, blackheads etc. With any new skincare addition, there may be some redness or irritation as your skin adjusts, but usually reducing the frequency or duration of use can help as your skin acclimates. MOST IMPORTANTLY it is NORMAL to break out at first even in clear areas; it is called the purging phase, think of it like the medication is bringing all the gunk and future blemishes to the surface. Stick with it and you’ll see a good overall result.Personally I use 1-2 a week, before I hop in the shower, this makes it easier to rinse off and get rid of the sulfur smell
« lifesaver »
So I normally never buy products as expensive as this one. In fact, this is the most I’ve ever spent on a product. But being in quarantine under a crazy amount of stress, my acne prone skin took a nose dive. My acne has probably never been as bad it is. In a desperate attempt to rid the nasty acne from my face I went with this based on the reviews. Oh. My. Goodness. My acne started to clear up after the first use. I was amazed by the results. The acne is still there but nothing has ever worked this well and they’re starting to vanish. This face mask doesn’t hurt at all. There may be a slight tingly feeling when you first put it on but the aloe is so soothing it’s nothing. There isn’t necessarily a smell to this, it’s pretty neutral. I would recommend this to anyone who needs to take care of some serious acne. I also use a cleaner, toner, serum, and moisturizer (oil for day, cream for night) which is also helping. I’m going to buy again when I EVENTUALLY run out down the road. Also, definitely just wrote this review why I’m waiting for it to work its magic.
« This hoe works »
I loooooove this mask! One of the workers at sephora recommend it to me and I got a sample of it and it reallly did work for my acne scars lol i think its called blemishes anyway it helped so my grandma bought me it and yo this hoe last FOREVER! I ain’t even joking i have had this since like march of 2017 and its January of 2018 and i still got a lot more to go
« I like it.. »
While this doesn’t make my skin perfect and completely acne free and beautiful (if you’ve found that secret product, lemme know!) I love what it does do! It brings all the gross oil and pimples to the surface. I’d much rather have the pimple and get it over with then have it slowly build for a week or two and then try to get rid of it. It does dry the skin out, but that’s probably why its recommended only 2-3 times a week.
« bye bye bad cystic acne »
I am not one who usually leaves reviews, but this product is outstanding. I had begun to have adult cystic acne. When the rona forced us into shelter in place, the stress brought on a horrible outbreak. my face was covered in cystic acne and little whiteheads. None of the products I had were working to clear it up. After reading reviews, I decided to order this online and give it a try. After the first use, acne was significantly smaller and less enflamed. Within a few hours, some of the little whiteheads had practically disappeared. It was like magic. It didn’t dry out my skin, but I also tend to be on the oilier side. I did still make sure to follow up with a deep noncomedogenic moisturizer after, because it is just good practice after a mask like this.I love this product and am actually very surprised it worked this effectively after one use.
« SENSITIVE SKIN LADIES BUY THIS »
Always clears and softens my skin when it’s a disaster. I am allergic to most anything that has an acid in it. Sulfur is the only way to go when I am broken out. This does not dry me out. It gives me a reset when I need it. I’m an ICU nurse wearing a mask 24/7 right now which has completely congested my skin. This has been my saving grace.
« Amazing results for cystic acne »
I just received this three days ago and felt I must write a review that may be of interest to other cystic acne sufferers. Having never had acne before, imagine my delight at developing cystic acne as a treat of perimenopause. For the past four years I have dealt with it, trying numerous products including a sulfer wash and topical antibiotic prescribed by a dermatologist. The wash and antibiotic have helped, but I have been experiencing a pimple outbreak for the last few months that has been out of control. I’m 49 for God’s sake, and now have scarring and at least one nasty pimple going at all times. I finally decided to order this masque last week. I recieved it a day after a new monster cyst on my jawline started to rear it’s ugly head. Applied the masque directly on the forming cyst (about the diameter of a dime by the way, painfully inflamed and raised) after washing, allowed to dry and let it sit for about 30 minutes before washing off. The next morning, the inflammation was nearly gone. Applied again last night, and this morning all that remains is red discoloration - NO CYST.I am utterly blown away and so delighted with the results. Not all products work the same for everyone, but if you are on the fence, give this a try. I only wish that I had purchased it much sooner!
